Subject:
Site Closures - Litchfield National Park
All, Please be advised that Buley Rockhole and Florence
Falls located in Litchfield National Park are now closed
to swimming due to heavy rain making the sites unsafe
for this activity.
These
sites will remain closed until the rain subsides and
the water levels and associated turbidity drops to an
acceptable safe level, the period of the closure is
entirely dependant on the amount of rain the sites get
over the coming days however historically the closures
of these sites are usually for short periods of two
to five days.
Access
to Litchfield at present is open however rain is continuing
and the creeks are near to and in some cases over the
road with the deepest being Wangi Creek at 400mm.
Signs are in place at the relevant creek crossings to
warn motorists of this hazard and any visitors to the
Park are advised to drive with due caution as these
creeks can rise rapidly with heavy rainfall.
